Il Divo Tickets - About Il Divo
The band’s name Il Divo is Italian for “star,” and it’s no wonder why the group has lived up to its namesake. Il Divo was first imagined by music manager and reality TV star Simon Cowell when he thought to create a multinational music group based on legendary opera singers The Three Tenors. Beginning in 2001 Cowell began an international search for talent that lasted for two years before he found his four singers. Each member hails from a different country, and they bring experience from several styles such as pop, opera and classical music. The group is known for its covers of other classical and pop songs, such as its Spanish rendition of Toni Braxton’s “Unbreak My Heart” which was called “Regresa a Mi.” The group’s self-titled debut album in 2004 became a bestseller at online retailers largely due to Il Divo’s performance of this song on The Oprah Winfrey Show in 2005. The album was an international, multi-platinum success that was a chart-topper in 13 countries and a top five hit in 25 countries. Since its debut, Il Divo has released four albums including a collection of Christmas and holiday-inspired songs. Its most recent album The Promise has already become a number one success on the UK charts.
